LPG Tanks

Manufactured homes may use liquefied petroleum gas or propane (LPG) for heating and cooking. Suppliers install a storage tank on the space and connect the tank to home fuel supply lines. HCD rules state that homes cannot be served by both a tank mounted on the home hitch and a tank located elsewhere on the space. Contractors must obtain permits to install tanks greater than 60 gallons within parks. Tanks must be securely but not permanently attached to manufactured home hitches or substantial posts to prevent accidental toppling. LPG tanks in a floodplain must be secured to prevent flotation.

LPG tanks cannot be located:
  • Within five feet of a flame or source of sparks;
  • Within five feet of mechanical ventilation air intakes;
  • Within or under any manufactured home;
  • Within or under an accessory structure used for sleeping;
  • Within any structure with three sides that are more than 50 percent enclosed; and
  • Within five feet of space lot lines.

LPG tanks cannot be filled within ten feet of a flame or source of sparks, sealed combustion appliances, or a ventilation air intake.
